We found this frameset on an auction site and bought it on a whim.
It’s a mid-80s Motobecane MTB, made in France. It’s in such good condition we didn’t touch it – just a rag and some spray-n-wipe got it looking good.
It’s made from Columbus OR steel, and internally lugged for hyper-strength.
It didn’t take long to decide what to do with it – it just cried out for a bit of re-engineering and a 2019 1×10 groupset. We started gathering components…
The final build took about a year, but wow is it worth it.
Shimano Zee 1×10 groupset, with a Raceface narrow-wide front chainring.
Upgraded Tektro brakes; competition cantis on the front and U-brake at the rear.
Selle Italia Pro saddle on a light-alloy seatpost.
What did we do with it? It went to the Kurri Mongrels!
It’s now hanging on the wall of the Station Hotel in Kurri, and soon it will be auctioned off for charity.
We can’t think of a better purpose!
